Pineville man turnshimself in to policeCEDAR cny, Utah (AP) — Atruck driver who left Iron County before he was sentenced on three counts of negligent homicide has surrendered to authorities in Tennessee, Iron CountySheriff Ira Schoppmann says.He said Donald Wayne Gambrel of Pineville, Ky.. walked into the Knox County Sheriffs office and asked them to run a background check to see if he had any outstanding warrants in Utah.When officials saw the outstanding warrant. Gambrel was held in Jail.Gambrel was charged in the Aug. 20, 1989, deaths of Robert C. Griffin, 37, Naomi G. Baldwin. 30. and Griffin’s daughter Collette, 16.According to testimony at a trial in December, Gambrel was westbound on State Road 14 in a tractor-trailer rig loaded with steel ingots when he lost his brakes on the western slope ofCedar Mountain. He missed a hairpin curve and was travelling about 70 miles an hour when he liit the car Griffin was driving and sent it over a cliff. Gambrel suffered a broken bark.
