Jamea Carnes was arrested last week on a clmrgn ol soduc* lng Kttie X. Jones, Ida ward, and also a cousin to him by marriage. This morning Carnes was to have bis prolimi nary trial be l ore Justice Fulmer, but the case was settled by Carnes forking over $700 to the plaintiff. The money was deposited in the bank unt il Saturday, when a new guardian will be appointed for the girl by the Probate court. To it News-Democrat reporter the other day Caraea proclaimed his innocence, and imld the whole thing was a blackmail. This morning he seemed verv motions to settle, and be paid tho above amount, without ft murmur.
