Plai«fiild, Ihd., 13 Aug., 1863. Ed. Journal: In the Sentinel of the 12th inst., appears an article headed, “Rebel Invasion of-Hendricks-Gounty,” which, but for he mention of this placo, and the name of Mrs. Jones, no one hero would suBpoct any allusion was made to the circumstances recently transpired here, in reforenco to the-burning of a dwelling house. And yet it is presumed to be as near the truth as can be uttered by the lying traitor who edits that filthv Bheet, whoso heart is destitute of any patriotic impulse, and who embraces every opportunity to slander Union men, Union BoldierB, and all who support the war against his friends, the rebels and traitors of the Bouth. The Sentinel says, “The lady was Democratic in her sentiments, and expressed them freely to her neighbors.ThiB is true if the sentiments and teachings of the Sentinel are to be taken as Democratic. .‘The lady/* and those who penned and dictated the article in question, would never quarrel over thoir .Democracy, as can readily be seen from the following sentiment uttered by “the lady” during the raid of John Morgan in Indiana : .I wisk *A«y(meaniDg Morgan’s men) would come to Plainfield and burn it up. I would show them where to begin very quick.”This is only one of the many “sentiments freely expressed,” by this lady friend of the Sentinel, and of course they are Democratic, according to the standard of the Sentinel. The young Quakers, and others who have been drilling here, are the men who turned out to chase Morgan from this State, while the editor of the Sentinel and hiB lady friend, the widow, harmonized perfectly in their Democratic sentiments, freely expressed as above. The people here would pay a liberal reward to find out the regiment in the Union army to which Mrs. Jones* huBband belonged. The citizens of Plainfield are well known as orderly, quiet people, and not in the least disposed to persecute an innocent female, and they areas unlike “a band of Camanche Indians” as the editor of the Sentinel is unliko an honest, patriotic Union man, and Gcd knows no greater difference than the last can be imagined. They are unconditional Union men, however,* hence their crime when judged by the Democracy of the Sentinel.U. F.
