McBride working without contract CHARLESTON (AP) — Former astronaut Jon McBride has worked without pay since July as the governor’s liaison in Wash ington, D.C., because his $103,000 contract was held back by the attorney general's office. Deputy Attorney General Dawn Warfield said the contract was returned because it did not specify the rate — whether hourly, monthly or weekly — at which McBride was to be paid. McBride has been Gov. Cecil Underwood's congressional liai son since May. A short-term contract that expired July 1 has already paid McBride about $8,000. Underwood Chief of Staff Jim Teets said the new contract has been corrected and is awaiting McBride’s initials.
