By NICK MARIANO Staff WriterPolice are searching for a murder suspect following interviews ol witnesses who came forward Thursday after learning of news reports describing a missing car belonging to a Carrier Mills man who was shot and killed Tuesday afternoon.The car is a 1989, black and gray two-tone, convertible Ford Mustang with Illinois plates AL 6035. It is registered to the victim, 54-year-old Ralph Thompson of 305 Smith Road.Police believe the suspect may be from out-of-state, but they did not indicate which state. Police caution that the suspect may be armed and dangerous.“We are onto some good leads,” special agent Ken Clorc, of the Illinois Division of Criminal Investigation, said. “We feel good about them.”The DCI has taken over the investigation with the assistance of the Saline County Sheriff’s Department. Deputy Jim Wheatcroft said the investigation has come a long way since Thursday.Thompson’s body was discovered by a neighbor Thursday morning in Thompson’s front yard. The body had been left covered in blankets about 30 yards from his front door. The garage door was left open.An autopsy report has revealed that Thompson died from multiple gunshot wounds. The type of weapon or weapons has not been indicated. He was shot inside his home and may have been shot again outside where his body came to restWheatcroft said that there were no apparent signs of a struggle inside the house and added that the suspect may have been in the house prior to Thompson’s return home Tuesday. The motive for the killing is unclear, Wheatcroft said.The DCI is continuing interviews today, and they have a stop and hold on the suspect. HINES Staff WriterAs Harrisburg teachers prepare to walk the picket line, Eldoradoteachers and administrators are preparing for the start of the1992-1993 school year on Aug. 24 as scheduled.The on-time start was assured Thursday night as the Unit 4 School Board gave its nod of approval to a three-year contract with the Eldorado Education Association.Board members Brian Davenport, Terry Younger, Ralph Coffey, Mike Roberts, Wilbur Fowler and Board President C. Mart Watson agreed unanimously to accept the deal. Board member Rea Cain was unable to attend the specialsession.The agreement came after a two hour and 35 minute executivesession. That total progress up to $18,020 after three years experience. The highest paid teacher in the district, with 22 years experience, a master’s degree and 24 hours additional college credit, will earn a base salarv of $37,521.76. At theJend of the eon tract, that instructorwill make $39804.37The agreement also providesan incentive pay provision forwork attendance.The board has agreed to continue to pay the combined health and life insurance coverage at the rate of $142.12 per month. Should both husband and wife be employed by the district as teachers, the board will pay double the single rate or the family rate, whichever is less.The agreement calls for a slight increase in the board’s participation each year over the lifeof the contract.
