FARMER AND WIFE BRUTALLY SLAIN• • '• 9 ,Mr. and Mrs: George W. Hudson, Near' * *Nobelsville, Shot to Death by Rob-bers While Sleeping in Home.NoblesviHe, lad., Aug. 12.—GeorgeW. Hudson and wife, aged 55 years,living on a fourteeu-aere tract of landthree' miles southeast of here, were found dead at their home today.The affair is shrouded in mystery and it is presumed that they were murdered by unknown persons whose object was robbery. Both had been shot with a pistol.News of the tragedy ;*rst reached this city through a message from neighbors to Dr. Loehr, who -was requested to call the coroner. The dead bodies were discovered by their only child, a daughter, Alta, nineteen years old, who returned home this morning from a week's visit with relatives and friends at Forlville and Anderson.She was accompanied from Fortville by her uncle, Andrew Brown, brother of Mrs. Hudson.Lying on the bed in an upstairs room with a bullet through the temple was her mother. Her arms were folded and everything indicated that she had been shot whilo asleep.Mrs. Hudson's face was powder burned and there were powder stains on the pillow.• Near the door in an adjoining room with his feet under the bed lay Mr. Hudson with a bullet hole In his left chest near the region of the heart. Both bodies wero cold, indicating that they, had been dead for several hours.An old-fashioned thirty-two caliber revolver was lying on the bod beside Mr. Hudson. It contained ono shell that had not been fired and four empty shells.As the authorities can find no place where the two extra shots had been fired, tli*y believe the weapon must have contained two empty shells. It ecuid not be ascertained whether or not the weapon oalouged to Mr. Hudson. The.house -was ransacked. Every bed was turned up. Chairs were thrown about and other pieces of furniture were thrown about. Near the front gate was a toy trunk about twelve inches square and a pocket-book. *It had been thought by the robbers, to cohtain money, no doubt. The only motive that can bo assigned for the murder is robbery. Mr. Hudson sold his farm some time ago ami it Is thought the robbers concluded he had money about the uotise.Mr. and Mrs. Hudson were last seen at the liomo of John Evans between' G and 7 o’clock last evening when they went after their cow. • Both husband and wife teemed in unusually good spirits.They talked and joked with the Evans family for some time. Evans says lie did not hear any shots fired nor any disturbance of any kind at the Hudson home during the night.The authorities have put bloodhounds on the trail.
