G.C teen killed in three-vehicle crash in comityEly The TelegramA Garden City teenager was killed and two men were hospitalized Thursday night after a three-vehicle accident at the intersection of Jennie Barker Road and Schulman Avenue, according to the Finney County Sheriff’s Office.Ronald Young Jr., 16, died from injuries sustained after the 1994 Pontiac Grand Am he was a passenger in failed to stopat a stop sign as it headed west on Schulman Avenue and struck a 1998 Ford Expedition driven by Brenda Morales, 20, Garden City, said Finney County Sheriff Kevin Bascue.Morales was southbound on Jennie Barker Road at about 7:15 p.m. and had stopped at the four-way stop. When she began to proceed through the intersection on Jennie Barker Road, the Grand Am ran the stop sign and struck her vehicle, Bascue said.The impact of the crash made Morales’ vehicle strike a third vehicle, a 1996 Kenworth semi trailer driven by W.C. Wapkins of Wickes, Ark., who was eastbound on Schulman Avenue and also was stopped at the four-way stop, Bascue said.The driver of the Grand Am, Christopher Goetz, 20, Garden City, was taken to St. Catherine Hospital, then transferred to Southwest Medical Center in Liberal, where he was listed ingood condition this morning. Another passenger in the Grand Am, John Hindman, 19, Garden City, was taken to St. Catherine, then airlifted to Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, in Wichita, where he was listed in critical condition this morning.Morales was taken to St. Catherine Hospital, where she was treated and released. Wapkins wasn’t injured.
