—'We miderstand a gentleman in El .Paso has received a letter from Ft Stockton in-* • i 1 '(Matrhg that Jesse Evans had taken a ohange of venue., Tt i s said' the : letter states that Evans committed some crime and escaped, mid the sheriff started: in pursuit saying he would either' bring- him back or kill lvirn, and that in a short time lie returned with Evans’ pistol and horse and refused to give any information about the result. Part of the story is corroborated by a dispatch received . from Stockton some days ago by sheriff Cnuiffe telling him that Evans was under arrest there and asking if he was wanted here. The matter was referred to Governor Wallace. If the story of Evans’ death is true, he must have escaped from prison and I have been killed in the effort to recapture him. If true, it will save Lincoln county some expense and justice the shame of a n o t he r j n d i c i a 1 fa roe.
