Tom Brewer Cleans Out a Newspaper Office. SpftiNuriELo. IU., Aug. 5 —Tom Brewer,the leader of the. gamhliug frutcrnity ofthis city, made au assault upon Dr. AarouGurney, the editor of the Evening Newa, this afternoon, betaoM that paper reported atpiiet game of poker that had occurred a few evenings ago. The doctor received a aevcre gash on the aide of the face, and over the eye and had his arm badly cut iu warding otf a box of uewa pintt-a which Brewer hurled at him. The attack wax made in the comiKHriug room as the forme were !eing locked up for the aecoud edi tion of the paper, ami the terrified printer* 11* d from the place uud left the old man to tight the battle alone. H. T. Hlick, a re-jh»rter, rushed into the street tor the police and was met at the door I»y Brewer’s brother John, who chased the pencil shover several blocks.
