cent wiinoiic.Defense Rests; Allaway Trial Ends AbruptlySANTA ANA — The defense in the Edward Charles Allaway mass murder trial here abruptly rested this morning without calling a single witness.Public defender Ronald Butler had been expected to deliver an opening statement and to call witnesses in a bid to show that Allaway was mentally ill when he shot and killed seven persons at Cal State Fullerton July 12, 1976.
