Larkin Hope Shot On the Streets of J * Columbus, Texas.The constable reported in the Light Monday as having been killed in Glid-den was killed In Columbus, a neighboring town. A full account of the shooting was received at the Post yesterday toy Mr. P. W. Hill, of troop G.The man killed was Larkin Hope, now constable and formerly deputy sheriff at that place. Hope was killed on the streets of Columbus shortly after dusk Sunday night and was shotin the back twice wtih a shot gun. When he received the first load of shot in his back he drew his revolver and fired twice, but his aim was wild andproved ineffective. 'Hope gained considerable notoriety about six years ago when he and hisbrother shot and killed Bob and JohnStafford, two of the wealthiest stockmen in that part of the country.Since that time it is said Hope has been in fear of his life and has been threatened repeatedly by the Staffords’ friends*, |At the time Hope killed the Staffordshe was a deputy sheriff.
