Man Drowns• •In CanalIPONCHATOULA - A 31-year-old Hammond man drowned early Wednesday one mile south of Ponchatoula 5 near Hwy. 51 South His I address was Sun Lane in Hammond. ‘Armada Butler Jr. of Sun Lane in Hammond was the victim. He had been fishing with Kenneth Clard and Melvin Wells, both of e Hammond, in a canal south of Ponchatoula. At approximately 10 a.m;, r according to the sherriffs 5 department, they were returning to the landing and f the boat capsized. Clark and 1 Wells manged to get to the e shore. Butler apparently did R not know how to swim, the s deputies said.:, Rescue units from the s Tangipahoa Parish Sheriffs $ Office, Ponchatoula Fire0 Department and Civil Defense and Police were on the scene._ The body was recovered about1 p.m. by diver Wayne Norwood. s N.
