When He Learns Outcome and May Have DrownedAppleton, WIs.—(/P)—Helen Wel-house, 18, of Little Chute, was slabbed to death last night at the Twelve Comers dance hall, about 11 miles north of Appleton.Deputy Sheriff K. W. Gerharz said several persons saw Glen Barker, 24. a young Outagamie county farmer, put his arm around the girl as if to embrace her, and then stab her in the neck with a pocket knife. The girl died on her Way to a hospital.The deputy sheriff said that the youth then went to his home and told his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A1 ..Barker, what he had done. The father advised the youth to surrender to authorities, Gerharz said, and drove him to the county jail here.MAY HAVE DROWNEDThe elder Barker entered the sheriff’s office and the youth remained outside,' Gerharz said. Authorities ‘ informed him that the girl had died. He went out to the car to get the youth.Informed of the girl’s death, the boy cried, “If she is dead, then there is no use of my living,” as he jumped from the automobile and fled. Gerharz related.A search was started but no trace found of young Barker. The undersheriff said the family believes the youth jumped into the Fox river a few blocks from thejail.Gerharz said Barker had been keeping company with the girl for some time, but last night she went to the dance with another youth.A coroner's inquest was held today.
