Hrief Mention.The sheriff of Sangamon county has made compromise with the inveaticating committee of the Board of Supervisors. The officer will pay back to the county $953 received for boarding prisoners.Dr. A. B. Sprinkle, of Irving, is charged with criminally assaulting Miss Annie Kelly, while treating her professionally. The physician escaped from the officer who had placed him under arrest.S. B. Turner, editor of the State Capital, a colored paper, of Springfield, has had arrested the proprietors of a restaurant who refused to serve meals on Saturday to him and two colored friends. The warrants were taken out under the State civil-righta law of I8S5.The Rev. John S. Smith, pastor of the United Brethren Church at Gibson, has brought against Lewis McPherrin a $5,000 damage suit for slander. The defendant is charged with having connected the clergyman's name with that of a Gibson woman in a compromising way.Dr. Aaron Gurney, editor of the Springfield Evening News, was on Friday attacked and severely injured by Tom Brewer, a reputed gambler of that city. The editor’s severest wound was caused by a box of news places which his assailant hurled at him. Brewer was finod $3 for the assault.
