Vandervoort, 36, slayer of a policeman who escapedfrom the institution last Wednesday, had been captured near Springfield and returned here.Vandervoort was said to have been found by W. B, Thomas, * farmer, in his bam, a mile and a half northwest of Tremont City. Thomas was said to have notified the Clark county sheriff’s office which sent deputies last night to take the fugitive.The three convicts who escaped with Vandervoort from the prison’s hospital ward were captured previously, Charles Adomack, 41, Cleveland, was captured the same day and Nathan King, 47, of Toledo, and Harold Curtner, 39, of Troy, were taken by railroad detectives in Lima last Friday evening.Weak From HungerVandervoort, suffering from tuberculosis, was in weakened condition. He injured his knee while escaping and apparently had little food in his four days of freedom. He was unshaven and extremely nervous. He still was wearing the prison overalls.He was taken to the hosptiat and later was to he put in solitary confinement.Vandervoort was convicted of killing a night policeman during a robbery at Wilmington in 1922.Vandervoort and the others used a home-made toich to cut thru window bars and used an improvised gauze rope to slide to the giound. Vandervoort, like the others, burned his hands in. sliding down the rope.Sheriff George Benliam of Clark county reported that Vandervoort was arrested by Chief Deputy Russell Shirk and Deputy Edward R. Baker. The fugitive was identified at the jail in Springfield,Dog Gives AwayVandervoort was said to have been hiding in a haymow w the bam. A dog’s barking led to his discovery.
