■Tom Brewer, the leader of the gambling fraternity of Springfield, made an assault upon Dr, Aaron Gurney, the editor of The Evening News, Friday afternoon, because that paper reported a quiet game of poker that had occurred a few evenings ago. The doctor received a severe gash on the side of the face and over the eye and had his arm badly cut in warding off a box of news plates which Brewer hurled at him. The doctor was not Seriously hurt. As a result of the fracas, however, Springfield has raised the cry. that the gamblers must go.”
