A N«« Fw for Stereotyped Plitn.Brnforabi?, Ill*, Aug. 6.—A short pirn* graph Id an afternoon papor bore Friday evening attacking the gamblers of this city fired the wrath of Tom Brewer, Springfield’s boss gambler, who went Immediately to the office of the paper and assaulted the editor, A, Gurney, striking him one blow with his fist and hurting a box of stereotype plates ttf him, injuring Gurney’s arm and cutting him ©n tbe cheek. Brewer throw r box of plates ai the editor’s son and chased the local editor out of the office, burling a box of plates after him as be ran down-stair* He then went tc polite headquarters and gave himself up. No one ia seriously injured. It is expected tbis episode will bring the war on tbe gamblers to a focus and wind them up for a time at least.
