(AP)—Richard Kiink, 47, 110-pound laborer who says he is an inventor, shot and killed a Wolcott* i ville bank cashier with a rifle Monday after the banker refused .'to cash a check.- IMaurice Kent, 43, was shot three I times after he refused to cash a cheek for S500 made out by Klink for himself, signed by himself, and i endorsed by himself.Sheriff Myron Welker said Klink is a mental case, He 3aid first degree murder charges would be filed against him today.“He disappeared about a year ago,” Sheriff Welker said. lt;4and I didn't know he had turned up again. He very definitely isn't normal.« « •KLIXK WAS quoted as saying as Kent was taken out of the bank on a stretcher, “I hope he dies.” Welker said he was told Klink kept muttering something about the banks helping the Communists.”The sheriff said Klink had tried to borrow money from the bank before and had always been refused.Welker said Kluik set down his rifle after the shooting and was reaching in his car for some tobacco when he was seized by Richard Targgart, publisher of the Wol-cottvillc Herald, and Fred Ritten-housc, an auto salesman.The two men held Klink until state police and the sheriff arrived.Kent was taken to LaGrange County Memorial Hospital where he died a few hours later from bullet wounds in hts chest. Floyd Perkins, president of the parent bank, said Klink returnedRICHARD KLINKwith the rifle after Kent wouldn’t cash the check.Sheriff Welker said Klink described himself as an inventor and lived in a cottage on Atwood Lake near Woicottvilk.While waiting for the police, Targgart said Klink said he had done the community a favor by shooting the cashier. He said his act would open credit a little at the bank.Klink later told the sheriff: He‘11 never insult a high priest again. There’s not very many people like me.”Welker said Klink is a. cleanshaven, polite man and is only five feet six inches tall.
