O. Dunbar Arrested for Abortion.l)r. H. 0. Dunbar, about 40 years old, and for years a well known practitioner in Athol, was arrested, Tuesday, by State Detectives Emery and Hayter, charged with committing several abortions. He was taken before Judge Field, and, on the advice of his counsel, Maj. Burleigh, he waived examination and was held in the sum of 82000 for examination, Aug. *21.The trouble began some two weeks ago,, when the body of an infant was found in a pond at Athol. State Detective Emery was detailed to Bud the mother if possible. In his search he found that several young women in the town had submitted to an abortion within a short time. This fact effectually covered up the track of the mother of the child found in the pond, but suspicion was directed toward I)r. Dunbar as having been guilty of malpractice.Following up this suspicion, the detectives discovered that an operation had been performed on Mary Kelley, who Uvea in Atbol with her parents. The officers first called upon the girl’s mother, who denied that anything was the matter with her daughter, or that she had had the services of a physician. The daughter also denied aI) accusation at first, but when the question was put to her direct she admitted that Dr. Dunbar had operated upon her. With this admission, the officers were satisfied that they had found the right party, And it resulted in a warrant being issued for the doctor’s arrest, several days ago.Dr. Dunbar is married, but does not live with his wife. He sleeps in a room in the rear of his office. It w alleged that the office is where the crime charged was committed. The doctor is a graduate of a New York medical school, and baa been in active practice here about a dozen years. Last falj^ be went South and did not return until spring. With that exception he has always practiced here.l-aat fall he had some trouble with his wife, and they separated, she going to Boston to live. Divorce proceedings are pending. Mrs. Dunbar has been twice married, as well as her husband. He has one child by his first wife, and she has two children by her first husband.This is not the doctor’s first arrest on a charge of abortion, and on this account his reputation has not been of the heat. Some years ago he was arrested for procuring an abortion upon a woman in Orange, who died from the effects of it..
