Holleman TellsUSurprise VisitOf Dale Morris£i1« * |District Attorney Boyce Hd-Uleman related today he had an Uunexpected visitor at his law office L in Wiggins recently.Holleman said his visitor waslj ex-Montana cowboy Dale Morris, 36, at liberty on a 10-day special, pass from the Parchman state L penitentiary where Morris is serving a 12-year sentence for manslaughter in the 1955 pistol slaying of a Bay St. Louis businessman.GOT CALL“He called me from downtown and asked to come and see me,” Holleman related. “I said allright/’During a lengthy conversation, the district attorney said Morris “asked me to get him a 10-day extension” to his special pass.“I declined to do it,” Hollemansaid.Holleman, who prosecuted theMorris murder case through three mistrials in Hancock County circuit court at Bay St. Louis, said he was not aware Morris was at liberty from the penitentiary until he received the surprise visit.NOT SURPRISEDfyt4-LItHowever, he added “almost nothing surprises me anymore.”Morris, charged with murder in the pistol slaying of Bay St. Louis businessman Charles Flink Sr., escaped from Harrison County jail on June 6, 1956, while awaiting a fourth trial at Bay St. Louis.Recaptured in California, hepleaded guilty to a reduced charge of manslaughter on his return to Mississippi and was sentenced to the state pen.State attorneys claimed Morris told them he was supposed to assassinate Holleman and Harrison County Prosecutor Gaston Hewes as payment for assistance he received in making his jail escape.Morris claimed he never made any attempt to harm the two officials, however.Morris is reported back in the state penitentiary now.
