by Kris KoppHerald stafl writer*The bodies of two Elgin teenagers, each shot once in the head, were found Sunday among the weeds and rubbish of a secluded teen hangout area near a railroad line at Bartlett’s western border.Police were alerted by a father and his two sons who were on the way to a makeshift skateboard haven in the area when they came upon the bodies of Lonnie Dunigan, 17, 507 Wellington, and Victor J. Jones, 14, 612 Bluff City Blvd.Both victims were fully dressed in T-shirts, shorts and jogging shoes, lying on a gravel road leading from Spaulding Road to a Commonwealth Edison storage area for telephone poles.ELGIN POLICE declined to discuss whether any evidence was found at the scene. It was estimated the bodies had been there for “a number of hours’* before they were discovered at about 10:30 a.m. west of theElgin, Joliet and Eastern railroad tracks.No residents at nearby Villa Olivia Country Homes reported hearing any gunshots, although Lt. Ed Kehm said it wouldn't be abnormal if they did.“There is no one out there to really hear gunshots,” said Kehm. “They are not uncommon, though, people go back there to shoot at targets and hunt.”Commonwealth Edison officials recently posted no-trespassing signs in the area in a concern over liability. Police said a stand of steel half-culverts were partially filled with dirtand rubbish about three months ago to discourage skateboarding. Since then vandals have continually spray painted the culverts with foul words, threats and violent language such as “You’ll pay,” and “Killer.”“The kids used to go back there and skateboard in the half culverts.” said Kehm. “They would go up and down the sides. This is the first time we have had any problem back there. How many kids are back there or how often, 1 don’t know.”Kehm said that the graffitti he has seen in the area is not gang related. Jones would have been an eighthgrader at Ellis Middle School in Elgin.No further information about possible suspects or leads was available late Sunday night pending an investigation.
