Finds Remains of Cross Buried by the Ku Klux KlanH F. Hersev found the remains j of the fiery cross of the Kit Klux Klan, which was burned west of the Methodist state hospital Thursday night, Apparent, Mr Hersey sa the wind had blown the cross over because the timbers lay flat on the ground, partially hidden in the grassof the pasture, about forty rods from the south end of the field. The upright, Mr. Hersey said, was probably ten or tjftAen feet high, whilethe arms were about eight feet longHe said the cloth or cotton had been nailed* on both the arms and the upright with large headed nails and’ that this had probably been soaked in kerosene or gasoline, because the itimbers of the cross were not burnedat all, Mr. Hrsev plans to re-erect the cross and take a picture of it.It is said by federal officers, who have investigated cases of other crossburnings in different parts of thestate that the appearance of the crossmeans that the Ku Klux Klan had added another 200 members to organization.
