At the same time Henry Xiernan was allowed an order for $3 for burial clothes tor the child. Several weeks alter these orders were allowed a hoy. aged about sixrcen years, called on Auditor Pnttison and asked for them. With the request for the warrants he handed the Auditor an order purportin'? to he from Court Bruens authorizing “George Smith, Jr.” to collect the money. The hoy receipted the stub, sign-in*? “Court Bruens per George Smith, i Jr.,” and was given the order. He ask-; ed for Nieman’s money, hut having no order was refused. Going into the Treasurer’s office he got the order cashed and departed. Last week Lizzie Peterman presented two orders for the same money, one Irom Bruens and one from Xicmun. Auditor Pattison, of course, refused togive another order tor the Bruens allowance, and showed the receipt signed by George Smith, Jr. Upon going home she asked the genuine George Smith, Jr., who ig a respectable farmer of about middle age, about the affair, lie knew nothing about it, and immediately hied himself to this city very much enraged, and when he got here was ready to whip or sue somebody until a satisfactory explanation was made. He went home with a certificate from Auditor Pattison that hewas not the Smith that drew the money. Everybody connected with the affair wants to know who and where the precious yotit.lt is that belongs to the innumerable Smiths and presented the forged order.
