Bonds were set at $40,000.Grekowicaccused of having beaten and robbed a Yellow Cab driver, W. D. Richardson. 3931 Drexel, on July 16 at 82nd and State, was seized July 25 at the home of relatives it 118th and Wentworth by Lt. John Bush and Detectives Edward Walsh and William Murphy of the Kensingtonstation.Police disclosed that Grekowicz after hiring Richardsons cab. directed the driver to take him to the home at 118th and Wentworth. Liter he ordered the driver to proceed to 59th and Ashland. When the machine reached 82nd and State, the army deserter, according to police, ordered Richardson to stop. When the latter complied, Grekowicz left and was followed by the cab driver.Brats Driver I nconseiousPolice declared the soldier grabbed the cab driver about the. neck and then beat him with some instrument, presumably a gun. When Richardson became unconscious. Grekowicz is accused of dragging him to a nearby weedy patch and driving off in the cab, which later was found in Joliet. Recovering consciousness about midnight, Richardson was taken to St. Georges hospital, where 35 stitches were taken to close thewounds on his head.Grekowicz, after abandoning the cab. went to Louisville. Ky.. where he stole another car and drove back to Chicago, police said. They revealed that they arrestedhim soon after they learned he was in the neighborhood.
