gust I, 1901.eWOUNDEDBy a Gun Shot in theArm.rntftWas Joseph Ballard by his Cousin, William Gore, Yesterday.Wednesday at 5:20 o’clock p. m. oecuried the shooting- of Joseph Ballard by his cousin William Gore. The ball took effect midway between the elbow and wrist, passing between the two bones of the fore arm, and through the clothing, slightly cutting the skin of the stomach, the ball was afterward found in Ballard’s cloths and is now in his possession. It is a thirty-two calibre ball and is hardly dented. The shooting took place on East Washington-st., at the entrance to the alley passing by the Big. 4 saloon. The difficulty between the parties arose over fan accident which occurred at the same place in the morning. Ballard was passing through the alley on a bicycle when three or four young men were throwing a ball in the alley and catching it, as Ballard approached Gore so Ballard says let a ball pass and in trying to keep from being hit by it he, Ballard, lost control of his bicycle and Daniel DePrez’s ice wagon which was passing by at the time ran over the wheel and mashed it up considerably. Some warmwords were exchanged and Mr. Ballard went away to his work, after taking his bicycle to Siefert Bros, for repairs. In the evening when returning to the Keck House, where he boards, having completed his work, that of making a cellar for parties on East Pennsylvania-st., he was hailed by Gore, who was again in the alley, and Gore asked Ballard why he talked to him the way he did in the morning and Ballard says that at the same time Gore pulled out his gun. Ballard says he told him to put away his gun and that he would talk the matter over with him and that Gore replied, “I will give it to you anyhow.”Ballard said to him, “don’t shoot” and Gore with an oath fired the shot taking effect as heretofore stated Ballard then ran into Arthur Lefferson’s feed store near by with Gore in pursuit. Gore was arraigned before Mayor Rot*' and gave bond in the sum of 8500 for his appearance Friday Aug. 2, for prelrr.insply trial. Gore is a wayward son of James Gore a shoemaker, who is a highly respected and honorable citizen. He did not wish to be interviewed, but claimed to be acting in self defense, and that Ballard was threatening him with a knife.]Jt1Xt1sraIrteti8khoPchrihriiihO'»tltlbaPoaooily\
