San Jacinto County votersballoting in Saturday's Democratic primaries will decide more than 10 contested local races.The winners are assured of election in November because there are no Republican candidates for office.Perhaps the most exicttng race involves the one for State Representative. San Jacinto Count ian, Jim Browder, battles againat three chal lengers in the DemocraticPrimary. This is the firstnative of this county to seek this office.Opposing Browder in this race are Don Stricland, J. C. Hooks, and Doc Elliott.The most contested race is the one for County TaxAssessor Collector. Five candidates seek election to thisoffice.Running for office are Lucille Glover of Point Blank, Eddie Gould of Magnolia, Ruth G. Morrison of Coldspring, Reginold Richmond ofShepherd and Ellen Tucker of Shepherd.Probably the most interest ing race involves Sheriff J. C. Parker’s battle against two challengers in the Democratic Primary.Opposing Parker is Houston veteran Police Offi cer Bob Rrumley and former San Jacinto County deputyCarl lice.The incumbent County Attorney. Robert Atkins, isunopposed. County Superintendent of San Jacinto County, Mabel Counts, also runs unopposed.There are two contested races for Commissioner seats:• For Commissioner ofprecinct I, incumbent George‘Bud” McKellar takes on political newcomer Danny Adams.* For Commissioner of precinct 3, incumbent Donald Cox is seeking election for his third term to this positionOpposing Co* is GWb Carnes. Thera are a number of candidate# seeking election to four constable seats: • For Constable of precinct 1, Charles Clark, Charles Dunaway, Clarence Yarbrough, and Greg Vore.• For Constable of precinct2, John J. Choate and DouglasLiliey.• For Constable of precinct3, Marvin Gilbert, Hirshell Guynes, Odis Murphy and Dayies Reed.
