They have not been placed in jail, however, but are under guard in their hotel room- Before the filing of murder charges police announced the prisoners had been released.Frankly puzzled by the case andat a loss as to a possible motive] for the double slaying, officer3 still | were further preplexed by the discovery early today of a diamond ring in Seeley’s possession, which they said resembled a ring former-worn by one of Uk Smith brothers. Frnight, but officers paid they were] *h j unable to shake cither of their! ni| 1 stories. j anSlain Men Not Bobbed i jui Earlier in the day officers had j Mi expressed belief that revenge, and not robbery, was the motive for the double slaying, but they said they had no foundation for this belief other than the fact that a small amount of money, carried by the j hy two brothers, had not been touched when the Smiths were slain.The four men registered at the hotel here Saturday, Wike and Seeley occupying a room adjoining that in which the Smith brotherswere killed.Wike told officers two men came into the roomshortly after 9 o’clock | p‘r Saturday night and that a fight started immediately. Wike said he was bound and gagged and robbed of $8 he carried in his pocket. Seeley was in his room at the time, but did not hear the disturbance, he told investigators.George Smith, whose home was in Cornwell, Conn., was in Oklahoma checking up on mortgagessold here by the defunct New Milford, Conn., Security company, of which he was secretary.
