The first Jetter was received last week by August Schultze, Jr., aged 19 years and a son of Mr. and Mrs. August Schultze, residing east of Troy. It was *it first regarded as a joke and ■but little was thought or said of It until last Friday when a similar letter was found on the street., The first letter, received by young Schultze, went through the Troy post-office, and was in the nature of a ^warning to the Schultze family. The flrat paragraph read: “We want to give you an eye-wink that we are :going to llestroy your father and mother. There are two helpers on thitf scheme and ^you can’t Imagine who they are. Don't talk to anyone or give away the plans.”A second letter was found last Friday on the street near Charles Peters’ store by Buster” Norbury, twelve-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. John Norbury. This letter was-4n an unsealed envelope and addressed to John Pistone, proprietor of a soft lt;lrink parlor in the west end. It ordered Pistone to kill August Schultze within twenty-four hours after receiving the letter. “If you fail to do so,” U stated, “we will destroy you and your family. The letter closed ’With the words: The dam scoundrel has to die”—and underneath a postscript which read: “We mean August .Schultze, Sr. not August Schultze,w %Young Norbury took; the letter to Pipf. E. J. Schreiner, principal of St.Prof, Schreiner turn-lt;ed it over to Rev. C. Lange who took It to. the Schultze family. It was then that receipt of the first letter wste made known. A comparison of the two showed them to be in the same liand writing and' they have been turned over to postofflce inspectors, Pistone became greatly alarmed ■when informed of the letter and declared he had not received It. The 'Schultze family, also looked at the matter more seriously and commenced to entertain grave fears over it.Just what the motive of the writer of the letters is cannot be established. .So far as Is known there has been no trouble among any of the parties implicated in the sensation. If there is no motive there is but one conclusion and that is the letters are the work ■of a crank, and the sooner the latter is apprehended the better.ive barrier.
