State to probe domestic violence caseHILLSBOROUGH — The attorney general’s office will decide whether Hillsborough police used excessive force against a man during a domestic violence call last week.Relatives of Swantee Brooks said police beat him with a flashlight after neighbors called them during a dispute between Brooks and his girlfriend last month. Brooks’ family said Brooks suffered a broken vertebra and facial fractures.The state attorney general's office said Monday its special prosecutions division will look at a State Bureau of Investigation report when it is completed, at the request of Orange-Chatham District Attorney Carl Fox.Fox said he requested outside investigators because he has worked with Hillsborough police on other cases and has prosecuted cases involving Brooks.
