Iitspectors Near Hot SpringsWashington, April 28 (flVThe price on the head of Alvin Kar* i pis went up to $7,000 today as the postoffice inspection service disclosed an undercover search for the man now rated as “PublicEnemy No. I*The inspection service offered $2,000 for information resulting in the arrest and conviction of Karpis and another $2,000 for in- I formation leading to the arrestand conviction of his companion,H*rry Campbell.Attorney General Cummings offered $5,000 for Karpis leads and $2,500 for Campbell tips last week.The inspection service said today it has been working closely with the federal bureau of investigation since Ka.pis and Campbell were named as leaders of a j gang which recently robbed a train at Garrcttsvillc, Ohio.The bureau of investigationwants Karpis and Campbell for the kidnaping. 1Postoffice inspectors joined federal agents in a recent raid on a farm house near Hot Springs, j Ark., from which the “number 1 j fugitive was reported to have 1 escaped jjst before their arrival. Kildroy P. Aldrich, chief in-Ispector of the postoffice department, said his service has found the reward system an effective weapon in capturing dangerous criminals who attack postoffices and mail trains.
