lands two in jailBY FRANK LANDRYt likely looked like a jail break, but two people nabbed outside Stony^^ntain Penitentiary last wegk weren’t trying to getout* : ?• • • •', ■They wef# trying to get contra-bwd-into the prison, assistant war-Jden Gunar Ivans said.About 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Stony Mountain staff, acting on a tip, saw a group of males outside the institution’s walls, near the outdoor exercise area,Ivans said staff noticed the group of four throwing something into the yard... “It appeared to be a black ball, but we don’t know what was in it, or what the contraband would have been,” he said.Two of the four individuals• # fwere nabbed by the Stony Mountain ^aff. The other two escaped. ' f *The contraband has not been recovered.‘‘At this point we have not been able to uncover the object.“There were inmates in the yard. It’s possible one of them may have been able to get the ball and was able to either hide it on the property or was able to smuggle it into the institution.’’Stonewall RCMP Sgt. Harry Bil said one of the two people apprehended was breaching his parole and is now back in the Penitentiary.The second, a 14-year-old boy, was breaching his probation, He was taken to the Remand Centre in Winnipeg.Ivans said it’s not common for people to smuggle contraband into the institution by throwing it over the wall, but it’s not uncommon either.People have been caught throwing objects into the yard before, he said. ■
