if.Mason City, Iowa, April 22.—Leslie Edwards of Mason City, a boy 22 years old, is dead, and ills brother, Norman Edwards, is being hunted by the police of northern Iowa and southern Minnesota, as the result of a desperate gun battle at Albert Lea with the police of that city last night. The fight, taking place on the Rock Island passenger station platform, lasted several minutes luring which twenty-seven shots were exchanged in plain sight of a trainload of southbound passengers.Leslie, the younger brother, was mortally wounded after three shots were fired at him, and died in a hospital. Norman made good his escape southward but is wounded, it is claimed.Several hundred dollars was stolen by the Mason City men at Owatouna yesterday. This caused a search for them and when found on the Albert Lea passenger . platform the battle ensued between the thieves *\nd Patrolman Fred Listson and Special Rock Island Agent W. P. Sherrod.The older brother’s overcoat was found after his sensational «scape south of the yards with three bullet holes in it. The entire countryside is being combed ffcr him. It is believed lie boarded a train, the one from which he and his brother hat alighted, and is many miles away.Chief of Police Ed. Carey has notified officers over all northern Iowa.1 The dead brother was shot one in the head, once in the body through the intestines, and once through the ankle. Thirty-eight caliber revolvers were used by the brothers and the policemen also carried them.Neither officer was injured. Listson was grazed by one bullet fired by the fatally injured brother. The hair on one side of his head was singed b.v the bullet.Henry Edwards, father of the boys, resides here.
