Student Appeals to Thornton Parents(Editor’s note: This letterwas received prior to Friday's disturbance at the high school.)Dear Sir,As a student at TTHS, I would like to draw this situation to your attention. The majority of the kids at TTHS feel that students come to school to learn. The situation here is that we walk down the halls and. pow. we get hit from all angles. I'd like to say that we appreciate the police protection at our school, but it isn't doing much good.1 feel, sir, that if the troublemakers i black or white) don't want to learn, thev should not be in school. The situation hereis that they’re alwavs let back* ■m after thev’ve caused trouble.This situation is very important. If half of the parents knew what happens to some of the kids at our school, they'd keep their kids at home. But, they' %rdon't see what happens. We feelthat some parents should cometo our school and see for themselves.t he question here is do they want to see the kids half-killed before they stand up for our rights? Is that what they’re waiting for? Maybe they will not have to wait, if they don’t do something soon. I’m writing this, sir, because I know howmy parents felt when I came home from school all beat up.The trouble here is that we who want to learn can't even come to school to learn anymore. Maybe if you write this in your column, more of the parents would at least give it a thought.
