ARRESTS START YESTERDAY ANDTODAYSheriff Boh Clark and Deputies Clean Up County of Underworld Characters.MANY JOHN DOCS GIVEN.Deputv Sheriff Charles Clements and Deputies Clean Up Cityof Oxnard.Twenty-one alleqed bootleagers were arrested within the city limits of Oxnard up to noon today in a countv wide cleanup of liquor trafficerft. that is expected to result in some 80 arrests throuahout the county, according to Deputv Sheriff Charles Clements, today, who had charge of • the cleanu* in Oxnard.The raid was staged under the direction of Sheriff Hob (’lark, and his deputies are still working on a number of warrants. The roundup startedat 10 o’clock yesterday morning, ron-j tinning through the night and up (through today. Deputy SheriffClements with three operatives has been working in this vicinity for thepast six weeks securing evidence against persons dealing with the transportation, sale and possession of liquor. The raid was confined to liquor cases only, gambling and vagrancy cases being Ignored in this cleanup.Besides cleaning up Oxnard, arrestswere made in Ventura. Santa Paula. Flilmore, Ojai and In the country districts. Most of those arrested have been arraigned, and hail or fine set, or their preliminary hearing fixed. Alleged bootleggers nabbed in the cleanup of tlie Oxnard underworld are:B. Bustamente. 41 f» Seventh street, pleaded guilty to four charges of possession., fined $350 on each charge for a total of $1400.Mrs. I.my Hicks, charged with three sales of Itquor and prior conviction; hail set at $1000 each or a total of $3000; preliminary hearing set for April 27.Irene Bowen (Bustamente) pleadedguilty to one charge of sale, fined$400.Negro porter by the name of Cole. Maria Bravo, 72S B stree.A. Ballesteros, Meta Street.Mrs I{. Martinez. Seventh street. Mrs. Lucy Leseero, (daughter of Mrs. Martinez).Robert Stone.William King, better known as “Kansas” or Big Bill”, three counts of sale.Juan Outerrez.Pete Rivers, Oxnard boulevard.Hazel Williams, alley between Sixth and Seventh, B and C streets.Right John Does.These persons are asserted to have all been operating within the incorporated city of Oxnard. At El Rio, Fred Morago and Joe Ruez were arrested on liquor charges.At Ventura the alleged bootleggers nabbed who came up in court yesterday were:Miss Vera Johnson, three counts of possession, fined $1500.Jack Cobin. possession, fined $350.Leonardo Jaurig, two counts of possession. fined $600.The list of names is not complete, as the sheriff's office is still working on the roundup. Only a few of those arrested in the sheriff's raid in Oxnard some time ago have left the 1 county.A new batch of violators has beenworking here, and it is this bunch that Deputy Sheriff Clements has ar-1 rested in an effort to cleanup Oxnard. The roundup here was in regard to liquor only, t he many other forms of vice being left alone in this raid
