UNREQUITED LOVE.Frederick George Helmore, a person of gentlemanly appearance, was on Wednesday indicted at theCentral Criminal Court with feloniously sending a letter to Sarah Alice Grierson, threatening to murder her. The pr«»secu:rix, a young lady of about 23 years of age, is the daughter of Mr. Grierson, general manager of the Great Western 11 ail way. It appears that since the year 1874, when the prosecntrix, who was at Margate with some of her family, accidentally met the prisoner, she had been subjected to systematic annoyances by him. It was found necessary, with a view to her protection, to make her a ward in Chancery ; but this was of no avail, as Helmore persisted in his course of annoyance. During this ieriod, it was stated, Helmore had written over SCO letters to the prosecutrix, in some of which he called her attention to cases in which young girls had been murdered by their lovers. Finally ho wrote the letter which was the subject of the indictment, which, it was contended, when taken in connection with all the other facts, although it did not contain a direct threat of violence, brought the prisoner within the scope of the law. —Mibh Grierson said Helmore had expressed a wish to make her his wife, but she had repelled his advances. He had sent her some presents, but she had returned them.—The defence was a denial of any intention to do tho prosecutrix any injury, but the jury found the prisoner guilty.—Sentence was deferred.
