Mob at Joplin, Mo., Threaten* to DriveAll Black* from Town.A tnob of 2.000 persons marched through the streets of Joplin, Mo., the other night, threatening nil negro residents of the place. Men and women tied in terror before the crowd. houses of negroes were burned and nearly every black was driven beyond the city limits. The mob made endeavors to prevent the tiredepartment from extinguishing the tiames and were partially successful. The outbreak followed the lynching of Thomas I Oilyard, a negro tramp, who shot Police- I man C. Leslie in the back and killed him. All night hundreds of men and boys searched for the murderer. Blood hounds were put on his trail, but tin* dogs failed to take the scent. At 2o’clock this afternoon the negro came out of Ins hiding place and was captured and locked up in the police ftatirn. As soon as the fact of his capture became ; known 3,000 persons gathered, battered j in the east wall of the prison, drag^'d j out the negro, lighting desperately, heat 1 and pounded him almost into insensibility ( 1 and dually hanged him.
