A Defective Mind but not Dan-geronsly insaneWas the verdict of the jury in the case of Martin Stuckman that occupied the justice court at the office of Squire Best from last Friday noon till Tuesday night. This verdict of the jury, the attorneys claimed, could not be made to conform to the statutes and it was handed back to them with instructions to amend it. After deliberating till near midnight, nothing nearer could be agreed upon and the jury then announced that they could not agree. This case was brought before the justice court on the complaint that Dr. Stuckman was of unsound mind and dangerous to be at liberty, coupled with alleged threats that he had make.About twenty-live witnesses were examined, but no evidence was strong and tho verdict of the jury was not unexpected to those who heard the testimony and were acquainted with the facts. It is the opinion of the people that the mental derangement of Martin Stuckman has been brought on by the excessive indulgence in whisky drinking. This has wrecked him both mentally and physically. The case is a sad one indeed.
