I.aura Slcath, a 1 »-year-old girl, was taken in charge by superintendent P. l». Withrow, of the Pnion Mission Settlement, Tuesday afternoon. She is in a pitiable condition, and her recovery is a matter of grave doubt.From a secluded, germ-laden hovel, dark and dingy, on the top of : the hit' «t Coal Mranch. the girl was taken, against the protests of the man who is ‘•aid to have contr butts! to her delinquency, and carried to the mission on Clendennin street, where everything posaib’e is being done to restore her health.The girl became a mother about ten days ago, and represents that .lack Lawson is the father of the child. \‘o trace of the child could be found, and it it believed to be dead.Superintendent Withrow says there are numerous rases of grossly immoral conditions in the same vicinity. and the county officers havebeen enlisted to make a full investigation.
