KATTLK WITH NKGRO.I Tuesday morning a negro giving 1 Ms name as Will Proctor, shot in ' both legs as the result of a pistol ' battle with Sheriff Franks and Dop* j uty Ellison wfas logded in jail j charged with several offenses, j The negro is supposed to Mm ! w?nted for horse theft In Bastrop Coiaty. He came here and claimed to he the son of a well known old*snegro of this community. This oe-new comer is unknown to them.immediately upon hearing the negro was on the Kyle road near Bodeman Hall, Sheriff Franks on horseback and Deputy Ellison in an auto hastened to the place. The negro riding a mule entered a field. Sheriff Franks rode In and when he approached the negro was saluted with piatol shots. The officer prompt ly returned the fire, a bullet from his weapon plerctnfc the negro's thigh. Even then he did not surrender but ran bolding his pistol over his shoulder as if to fire again. Sheriff Ftanks was in such close pursuit that Deputy Ellison who had left his auto and entered the field could not fire for fear of hitting the officer.
