ROBBED THE VAHDALIA DEPOT AT PLAINFIELDThieves Made a Small Haul, andThen Escaped with a StolenHorse and Buggy.Special to the Indianapolis Journal.PLAINFIELD. Ind., April 22—Thieves broke into the Vandalia station soon after last midnight, wrecked the safe with three charges of explosive and escaped in a stolen buggy with 110 in cash and two express packages, the contents of which are not known. The explosions were heard by residents in the vicinity, but no attention was paid to them as they were believed to be the reports of revolvers by tramps. When Agent Eston Greene openedthe freight office this morning he found the safe completely wrecked, though little damage was done to the office.The buggy was stolen from John Hollingsworth and a horse was taken from the barn of Dr. J. P. Cope. The rig was abandoned at Mount Jackson and, after being headed in the right direction, startedtoward home. The horse reached the home of W. B. Vestal, two miles east of town, about daylight. There Is no clew to the identity or whereabouts of the thieves.
