The defend-ent is an old man, some 80 years of age, a resident of Jackson county, where he has lived for many years Among the children whom he raised was a son who, upon arriving at the age of manhood—we won’t say discretion—espoused spiritualism for his moral mentor, and then busaai a travelling doctor under spiritualistic faith Like all such he traveled far and wide, and in his wanderings, by mean* of hie profession,he accumulated considerable property. Among the worldly possessions which he acquired was 120 acses of land in Story county, lying between Ames and Nevada. To settle the title of this iajidjb the present suit now’ in court.During the travels of Dr. Doty, and while sojourning for a winter in one of the southern states, he became acquainted with, and a boon companion of the distinguished and now brilliant(!) worker in the cause of total abstinence of strong drink — say whisky for instance, but eicept sour wines —Dan Rice. During this companionship Dan was out ’(!) of money, and Dr. Doty made him a loan. Time rolled on; show business was dull ; Dan didn't, nor could not pay. Rut a streak of good luck in the year 187G dawned on the great showman, and money flowed into his coffers. At this time Dr. Doty sued Rice, in Meadvilie, Pennsylvania. Rice contested and as the Doctor was out of funds to prosecutor here was a dilemma. To the free and easy, the vagabond and the idler there seems to be an especial Providence.and a Providence came to the relief of Doty at this time in the person of his father, who, accidentally—as to the time— passed through Meadvilie just at the bight of the pressing wants of his son.
