Pardoned.— The Governor has pardoned from the State prison, Mr. John Murray, who was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment, some three years ago. The petition for his release was signed by all the jurymen still living in the county, and the county officers, town officers, and a very large number of our citizens. Since his incarceration in the prison, his conduct has been such as to merit the decided approbation of the officials there, and his term of imprisonment would have been shortened over a year and a half, for good behavior, by the rules governing the institution. The fact that he had a wife and six small children at home, and the further fact that those familiar with his case do not believe that he ever intended to commit the crime for which be was imprisoned, caused a general feeling of interest to be felt in his case among the people here, and hence there seems to bo a united feeling of approbation at the Executive’s course in the matter. In setting him free, Governor Taylor has done an act wbich we believe he will never regret. We know that it is difficult for an Executive to judge, from the different petitions before him, whether cases are really meritorious — lawyers work up cases skillfully for a fee—but in- pardoning John Murray, Governor Taylor hasexhibited excellent judgment._ _ . _____
