Harrington Shot To Death By Bennie Harrell Near Greenville' YesterdayA ^friendly” poker game yesterday afternoon ip the woods a short distance behind Robert Arnold’s fitting station 110.10 ofithe Washington-Givenvilie higjh-way ended in the death of Hubert Harrington, young man of that community.Harrington was shut to death by Bennie Harrell after Harrell at frjeuds had tried toIf, Bennie Hturr#f!,Frank Harrington, Fountain Harrington and JMaa Whitaker joined Dewey Brooks, Hubert Harrington, Edward Simpson, Ian.* Foru-ham, Morgan Fordham, Macon Buck. Walter Fields and Earl Speight late yesterday afternoon.As they canfe upon them, Bennie said. “Let’s raise the ante.” Whereupon Hubert Harrington answered, It’s a friendly game, only penny ante.”“What have you .got to do with it?” Bennie said, as he and his brother, -V. T., walked over to Harrington.Earl Speight, one of those already in the game, hit V. T. w-ith his fists and Bennie drew a .32 pistol from his pocket and shot Harrington twice, the first shot entering 'the right side of his face and coming cut on the left, the other bullet caught him in the sholder. Harrington walked a few steps before he fell dead.Dewey Brooks, also one of the original players, wrested the gun from Bei.iue. • Bennie and his ■friends started toward Brooks, some say with knives, but evidence showed no knives in the group, it was said.Brooks, cornered by the mm, shot Bennie' in 'the thigh and snapped the gun at them again and finding it empty, threw it away and ran. but was caught and see verty beaten. ,Brooks was released from a Greenville hospital after he received treatment. Harrell is still in the hospital, technically under arrest.Sheriff J. Knott Proctor, of Pitt county, said this morning that bis officers broke up a poker game earlier in the afternoon in which the same group were playing.1I
