Convict ManWalter Radford, 60, of Chicago Heights, was found guilty of the murder of his 21-year-old wife in a fiveday jury trial which concluded Friday in Harvey Felony court.Radford was convicted in the December 27. 1975, shooting death of his wife. Denise, at their home, 332 Boston street.Assistant State’s Attorney Cliff Johnson said the case revolved around evidence con cerning whether Radford had wanted his wife dead, prior to the shooting, and whether a gun. carried by Radford, was always m his possession“It was a meaty, dirty case One of the dirtiest cases I’ve ever tried.” Johnson saidON SATURDAY afternoon.December 27. 1975, ChicagoHeights police responded to a report of a shooting at the Radford home, on 332 Boston streetMrs Radford was found lying on the kitchen floor with a bullet wound in her chestPrimarily on the testimony of a neighbor, Mrs Sharon Gardner, 27, of 347 Standish street, Radford was charged with murder by Chicago Heights po lice.Mrs. Gardner said that Radford had deliberately killed his wife Radford claimed, at the trial, that he had discovered his wife was having a sexual rela tionship with another person,of Murderaccording to JohnsonHOWEVER, OTHER acquaintances of the Radfords later gave testimony that Rad ford had solicited one man to kill his wife, based on the ex planation that his wife knew too much about his dealings with narcotics and stolen property, Johnson said Chicago Heights police reportedly discovered stolen property in the Radford home when they investigated the shooting Other witnesses testified that Radford carried a 357 mag num handgun with him at all times, and that he and his wife were close to getting a divorce The neighbor, Mrs Gardner,said that Radford threatened toshoot her on prior occasions,and that she was present when Radford shot his wife, according to Johnson.The neighbor reported to police that Radford, while quarreling with his wife, knocked a knife out of Mrs. Radford's hand, stepped back, and shot her.
