Judges Biiscoe and Crane preside!. Among the audience was quite a number of ladies. Mr. Roddy of Baltimore appeared for the prisoner and States Attorney Brandt is being assisted by Mr. Merrick Mr GcO Waters of Laurel is the foremau ot the jury.The following summary of the evidence on Wednesday is takeu from a Balto. S/m report Mrs. Ida M. Bowie, widow of Francis M: Bowie, was the first witness called for the State. Mrs, Bowie was accompanied by Mr. IPui. G. Brooke. She said: “My husbandleft home about 4.30 o’clock P. M. on the Sun d iy of the murder. lie stated he was going to look after his sheep. As he did not return to the house to drive up the cows, which he usually did, I became alarmed, and later on calfed a servant, Maria Brown, colored, and sent her to look for Mr. Bowie. She went to the barn and reported that Llie horse, saddle and bridle was at the barn gate. I told her she was mistaken. She called another serv-nt, and while I held a lautern they went to the barn and caught the horse and brought it to me. I waited all night, and in the morning sent a note to Justice James Harris, telling him Mr. Bowie was missing.” Mrs Bow ie identified the watch case which was pro luc ed in court and *aid it belonged to her husband.Maurice Stallings testified to assisting in in the search of Mr. B.,wie. He saw blood stains under tbe walnut tree and also saw that some one had attempted to remove the blood stains by gathering tip soil and throwing it on the field. Finger marks could be plainly seen on the ground. The witness described the search for the body, the finding of the well chain. Mr. Bowie’s hat near the fence aud finally the recovery of the body from thejwell He also identified the bloody club and the hat.William G Brooke, one of the searching party, descrilied the locatiou of the walnu tree and the finding of the locust club in a ravine about ITS feet from the walnut tree. Robt Wells and Julius Jones testified to taking a message from Me Bowie to tlie prisoner as to coming losee him about hiring.Other witnesses testified to Pinkney’s character for peace and quiet At the coticl nsion of the evidence for the defeme, Mr Merrick asked the Court to allow Barber to contradict the statements made off Pinkney, which w objected to by Mr Rody and the Court sn tained the objection.The argument of the case will take place today
