District court records indi cate Chauncey Grissom failed to appear April 6 in court on the alleged forgery and theft charges, and a $15,000 bench warrant was issued for his arrest. A bond forfeiture hearing is sched uled for May 9 in the case. Grissom was a key witness in the trials of both Jose Delacruz, 35, and Anthony Waller, 27, who have been convicted in connection with the April 2010 beating and strangulation death of 33- year-old Joshua Haines. During the trials, Grissom testified he stole Haines’ wallet amid the attack on Haines, who was severely beaten April 10, 2010, at a Hutchinson apartment. Haines, who was called to the apartment for a drug deal, was “jumped,” Gris som said. Grissom maintained, how ever, that he never struck Haines and fled when he heard the sound of duct tape.
