ONE MAN KILLER,ANOTHER SURRENDERSAND IN JAILtW. T. Kessler was killed about 8:30 o’clock Tuesday night at his home four miles west of Sulphur Springs, on the Lee Bridges farm, j ? A man by the name of Vandergriff j t is in the Hopkins County jail, charged vitb the killing.Soon after the killing, Vandergriff came to the Sheriff’s office and surrendered, saying he had killed Kessler.After locking Vandergriff in thecounty jail, officers went to the Kessler home and found Kessler’s body lying on his bed, where he apparently had died from a broken neck.Kessler was a bachelor, about 50 years old and had been living on the Bridges farm for many years. At the time of his death, Mr. and Mrs. Vandergriff were living in the house with Kessler.There was no eye-witness to the | killing, as Mrs. Vandergriff was vis-| iting in West Texas.After he surrendered, Vandergriff made a statement to officers in which he said Kessler had snapped the gun twice in an effort to shoot him before he took the gun from | Kessler and struck him in self-defense.An examining trial of Vandergriffwas held before .Justice .Johnny Wyatt Wednesday morning and his bail set at $7,500.Funeral services acid burial of Mr. Kessler will take place at Paint Hock this afternoon at 4 o’clock, with Bov. K. M. Bain in charge of the services.
