The telegram that took Deputy Sheriff Chatten to Wakarusa yesterday to prevent threatened depredations by a gang of eight or ten tramps was sent by E. A. Gould, superintendent of the Wabash railway. The alarm of the residents was caused by the significant action of members of the gang in adding to their supply of arms by the purchase of a revolver in Wakarusa and having a number of steel drills sharpened. Before Deputy Chatten arrived the gang had left for the south, overland.
