(AP) - A Kalispell pathologist was to travel to Libby Friday in an effort to determine the number and type of wounds received by t’Ao West Kootenai men killed Thursday in a shootout reminiscent of the Hatfields and McCoys.But in the Montana version, the names are Talbott and Boble.Lincoln County Sheriff John C. Fisher, asked if he had determined how many bullet wounds were found in Hillary Talbott, 57, and his son, Richard, 32, said, 'T haven’t quite decided,”The sheriff said each body bore a number of lacerations.”But officials apparently have decided whom to blame in the double slayings: John H. Doble Sr., 61, of Rexford, has been charged with two counts of deliberate homicide.Fisher said the victims wereshot to death during an afternoon argument over property ownership in the area west of Rexford.He said the Talbotts were killed on the sod over which they were quarreling with Doble and his son, John Jr.,(They were about 75 yards from the Doble residence and 300 yards from the Talbott residence, he said. There was no fence there — that's one of the things the fighting was about: the unfenced property.”Rexford, population 243, is about six miles from Eureka,population 1,200, and is about 70 miles from the county seat of Libby, where the bodies were Laken for examination. There are no emergency medical services in the area, but Fisher said the men were dead on the scene when he and his deputies arrived at the backwoods site.He said it appears that both parties were armed before andduring the conflict.That's why we haven't been able to decide on the caliber of weapon which caused the wounds, he said Thursda night. Some of the lacerations may have been something other than bullet holes.He said that a large-bJaded knife had been added to an arsenal of weapons confiscated earlier: two rifles, two shotguns and a pistol.In addtion to combat of other types, the younger Doble had been hit on the head with a two-by-two-inch length of plank. Ihe sheriff said.Fisher said it was not knownwhich or how many of the firearms confiscated were used in the kiiiing.The elder Dobie is being held in the Libby County jail in lieu of $100,000 bond.County Coroner Mel Vial said no one knows for sure what turned the long-standing feud between the two families into abloodbath A scarce in Eureka, who asked not to be identified, said the cause may have been a basic antipathy. I understand the Talbotts bought that property from someone back East, and ihe Dobles and Talbotts never seemed to gfct along over theland. he said.Fisher said that his deputies would be working in the Rexford area Friday, trying to piece together the puzzle of the unleashed violence into a sensible picture.1 guess they’ll be up there a while. he noted.
