Ritter’s ciunng room, several shot taking effect in George Hill s neck ai.d one passing through his left ear, and several lodging in the arm of a colored cook employed there.Suspicion seemed to rest on George Ballard. He and Hill had been to Paoii that day, on invitation of the grand jury, and had some rruuble on the train on their way home. When the train stopped at West Baden both men got off and j the quarrel was renewed. They finally came 10 blows Hill struck Ballard With a stone, brick, or -knucks’ it i* claimed, and bloodiedhim considerably* They wereseparated and each went his way. Some time after this the shooting occured. This racket caused Ballard’s name to be connected with ■ the shooting though he claims that he was at French Lick when the shots were fired and says he can prove it by a number of witnesses,among them the station agent and engine wiper at French Lick. Ballard's frieuds claim that some one knowing o* the trouble did the shooting, expecting him to carry the blame.Hill and the colored woman are not seriously hurt. No. 6 bird shot were used.
